Malvern Roosters is pleased to announce that we will once again be fielding teams in the ISEC Under 11, Under 13 and Under 15 competitions for the 2026/27 season

Registrations are now open and we encourage families to register early, as several competitions are expected to reach capacity well before the season begins

The ISEC competition has confirmed the following key dates;

  • Season Commences: Friday 9 October 2026

  • Final Round before Christmas: Friday 18 December 2026

  • Competition Resumes: Friday 5 February 2027

  • Final Home & Away Round: Friday 26 February 2027

Playing Two Games?

Players wishing to play a second game of cricket each week are eligible for a 50% discount on their second registration

Please contact Marc O'Donoghue at juniors@malverncricketclub.com.au to obtain a PlayHQ discount code before registering

Age Eligibility

To be eligible to play in an age group, players must be under the nominated age as at 1 September 2026

For example:

  • Under 11: Players must be 10 years of age or younger on 1 September 2026

  • Under 13: Players must be 12 years of age or younger

  • Under 15: Players must be 14 years of age or younger

Register Early

Historically our Friday night Under 11 and Under 13 competitions reach capacity by late August

Teams will begin to be allocated during early to mid September

Once age groups reach capacity, registrations will move to a waiting list. Previous seasons have shown that very few players on the waiting list ultimately receive an opportunity in their preferred competition, so early registration is strongly recommended

Under 11 - Grade 2 Availability

Due to the expected demand for Friday night Under 11 cricket, it is anticipated that all Grade 2 registrations will be allocated to Saturday or Sunday morning teams playing out of Central Park

This will be confirmed once final registration numbers are known

Registration Priority

Until 6 September 2026, priority will be given to players residing in Malvern and surrounding suburbs

Should registrations exceed available places, players residing outside our nominal catchment area may not be offered a position and will receive a full refund

Uniform & Equipment

All players are required to wear the official Malvern Cricket Club navy gear whist training

A link to purchase club apparel will  be sent around once ready to go

While the club provides coaching equipment, every junior cricketer is encouraged to have their own;

  • Bat

  • Batting pads

  • Batting gloves

  • Helmet

  • Protector

Starter cricket kits are available from retailers such as Rebel Sport and Greg Chappell Cricket Centre and generally provide everything required for a player's first few seasons. These items will be used at both training and matches and, with proper care, should last multiple seasons

Our Junior Cricket Ethos

At Malvern Roosters, our priority is to create an environment where every junior cricketer can enjoy the game, develop their skills, build lasting friendships and foster a lifelong love of cricket

While we celebrate success and encourage players to compete, our focus is on long-term player development rather than short-term results. We believe every player should have the opportunity to learn, improve and contribute positively to their team

Our approach to coaching and team selection reflects these values and aims to provide an enjoyable experience for players of all abilities—from those playing their very first game through to those aspiring to representative cricket

Parents are encouraged to read our Junior Cricket Ethos, which outlines the principles that guide our coaching, player development and team selection across all age groups

Team Formation & Selection

Under 11

Under 11 teams are formed with the objective of providing a positive playing experience while maintaining balanced teams across the competition

Where possible, consideration is given to;

  • Friendship requests

  • Player age

  • School groupings

  • Previous cricket experience

  • Overall team balance

Whilst every effort is made to accommodate friendship requests, this cannot always be guaranteed

With the continued growth of our Under 11 program, the club always aims to field at least two teams in Under 11A Grade each season where player numbers and ability permit

When forming teams, we seek to strike the right balance between maintaining friendship groups and ensuring players are placed in an environment that best supports their enjoyment, development and competitiveness. As such, both playing ability and friendship requests are carefully considered as part of the team allocation process.

Under 13

A Grade

The U13A team is a fully selected team based on ability & atitude. Selection is at the sole discretion of the Selection Panel, including the Junior President and Junior Administration Officer.

B & C Grade

Teams are formed primarily considering;

  • Previous season performances

  • Team balance

  • Friendship requests where practical

Players requesting to "play up" into an older age group will be assessed on previous performances, readiness for the higher standard, and capacity at that higher age group

Under 15

Under 15 teams are selected by the Age Group Coordinator, considering player ability, previous performances, team balance and ongoing player development

Age Group Coordinators

Under 11 – Henry Sayers

Under 13 – Dennis Petrie

Under 15 – George Wilson
