Whilst it’s sad news that the senior club have lost the services of Mick Beer the opposite can be said for the junior section of the club.

Mick’s professional cricket career included 2 tests for Australia, and over 100 domestics games for Western Australia, Victoria, Perth Scorchers and the Melbourne Stars.

In 58 1st XI games at Malvern Mick took 120 wickets at a remarkable average of 12.19. Of the bowlers to take over 100 1st XI wickets for the Roosters, Mick’s average is the best per wicket in contemporary times (Ron Howland 13.58, John Salvado 13.58 and Nigel Murch 14.34). He won the 1st XI bowling average (Len Hoad Trophy) in each of the four full seasons he played at Malvern and last season took 33 wickets at 11.51.
